Book Week is always one of the most exciting times of the year, and 2025 was no exception! From August 16th to 23rd, schools, libraries, and communities across Australia celebrated the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s National Book Week, now in its 80th year. This year’s theme, “Book an Adventure,” inspired children and families to dive into stories, dress up as their favourite characters, and share in the joy of reading.

For the George the Farmer team, Book Week is a highlight on our calendar. Each year we are delighted to see fans dress up as George, Ruby, and other much-loved characters from the George the Farmer picture storybooks. Your creativity and enthusiasm never fail to make us smile, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and shared their farm-tastic dress ups with us this year.

Farm-tastic Dress Ups Everywhere

Whether it was jeans and a blue shirt for George, a red shirt for Ruby, or something a little different - like Will the wool classer, Kev the shearer, or Elizabeth Green the apple grower - we loved seeing the way children (and even teachers!) brought the characters to life. The joy on your faces in the photos we received is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do: inspiring children to love reading, while also learning about the world of food, fibre, and farming.

Why We Love Book Week

At George the Farmer, our mission has always been to create stories that entertain while also educating. We know that when children connect with characters, they are more likely to engage with reading and learning. Book Week gives families the chance to celebrate this connection in a fun, hands-on way through costume and play. It’s not about perfection, it’s about sparking imagination, making memories, and encouraging a love for books.

Thank You!

We are so grateful to all the families, teachers, and schools who shared their George the Farmer Book Week celebrations with us in 2025. Your support and enthusiasm mean the world, and it inspires us to keep creating stories, resources, and videos that help children understand where their food and fibre come from.

As Book Week wraps up for another year, we encourage you to keep the spirit of storytelling alive at home. Explore new authors, revisit old favourites, and of course, continue your adventures with George, Ruby, and the whole farm crew.

Here’s to another year of celebrating reading, imagination, and the joy of learning together. We can’t wait to see what Book Week 2026 brings!
