We sleep in it, dry ourselves with it, wrap our bodies in it, and even cook with its oil. Today, we're thrilled to unveil five new educational resources about cotton! Kids will be fascinated to discover the wide array of products that come from this incredible plant.
Natural fibres come from nature and include both plant and animal fibres. Plant fibers such as cotton, hemp, and coconut, as well as animal fibres like wool and silk, can be spun into thread or yarn. These materials are used to create everyday items like t-shirts, jeans, socks, bed sheets, and even paper.
Cotton is a versatile crop that serves as both a food and fibre source, producing fluffy white cotton bolls after its flowering stage.
Thanks to the support of Cotton Australia, our new resources include a paddock-to-product video about cotton, a catchy music video titled 'Cotton, Cotton, Cotton,' two engaging 'In the Classroom' episodes with fun activities about cotton, and a free curriculum-aligned educator's resource for Foundation to Year 4 students, focusing on STEAM subjects.
A big thank you to Merced Farming and the Kahl family from Narrabri, NSW, for hosting us during the busy cotton picking season and sharing your expertise. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
